The aim with The Polynational War Memorial is to create the most comprehensive war memorial in the world, and a series of world-leading institutions in fields relating to issues of war, peace and history.
To achieve this goal the work has been divided into several overlapping phases. It is currently in the first phase where a preliminary proposal is being produced that outlines the programs and the architecture of the institutions and the memorial, and describes their use and relations.
Three architect offices/groups – Testbedstudio (SE), Raumlabor (DE) and Servo (US/CH/SE) – were invited to design the memorial and main buildings in 2005-2007, and the result is currently being transformed into presentations, in the form of 3D-animations, prints, lectures and full-scale experiments, which are presented in public exhibitions and lectures.
In the coming phase, the proposal will be presented to potential funding institutions and individuals with the plan to build the Polynational War Memorial sometime in the forseeable future.
The Polynational War Memorial Project is initiated and run by artist Jon Brunberg with generous support from the Swedish Arts Grants Committee. Please e-mail jon[AT]brunberg.se if you have any questions or use the form on the contact page.
This website also includes a comprehensive library of physical and virtual memorials and a series of feature articles about topics relating to memorials. See the research section.
