Operation Vijay Kargil was the Indian Army’s name of the counteroffensive to regain strategic points from the Pakistani army and Pakistani-backed militants in the mountainous region surrounding Kargil and along the Line of Control that is the "de facto" border between Pakistani and Indian-administered Kashmir. This conflict which lasted only a few months are sometimes kalled the Kargil War. The official death toll for the Indian Army, according to Wikipedia, is 527. The Indian Army’s martyrs page shows 533 records for this operation. The original website is no longer available.
