Operation Vijay Kargil was the Indian Army’s name of the counteroffensive to regain strategic points from the Pakistani army and Pakistani-backed militants in the mountainous region surrounding Kargil and along the Line of Control that is the "de facto" border between Pakistani and Indian-administered Kashmir. This conflict which lasted only a few months are sometimes kalled the Kargil War. The official death toll for the Indian Army, according to Wikipedia, is 527.
