It is estimated that up to 30,000 people were unlawfully executed or ”disappeared” by the military or paramilitary organisations during Argentina's ”Dirty War” 1976-1983. A truthfinding commission, CONADEP (Comisión Nacional sobre la Desaparición de Personas), was established in 1983 to investigate such human rights violations and presented around 9,000 names. The Argentinian military themselves estimated that 22,000 people was killed or forcibly disappeared in 1976-78 only. Human rights organisations have contested the figures of CONADEP and made further investigations, corrections and amendments to the list of CONADEP. The lists and numbers presented here were produced by a human rights group called Grupo Farenheit, in collaboration with Projecto Desaparecido. It includes a list of killed with 2422 names and one with disappearances with 8427 names. Both were retrieved in july 2005 and may have been changed since.
CONADEP's list with 5971 names is available at Wikipedia. Desaparecidos has a revised version of the CONADEP list. For all lists at Desaparecidos concerning the Dirty War, see this page.
