The government of the Philippines and MILF met for numerous rounds of peace talks during 2013 resulting in the signing of three out of four annexes to the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro (FAB), signed in October 2012. Fighting between the parties did not result in 25 battle-related deaths during the year. However, three groups were involved in fighting against the government in 2013; ASG, BIFM and MNLF-NM. MNLF-NM reappeared as an active group when they attacked Zamboanga City in September. The group opposed the peace talks with MILF and declared their own "Bangsamoro Republik" in the southern parts of the Philippines.
